Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. Feminist Frequency explores how women are represented in the popular culture. Aiming to dispel the myths of women that exist in pop culture, she has also been working with issues that relate to the gender-specific harassment of women as well as different classes of individuals online. With a master's in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaking engagement and has given talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as at The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Inquiring about gender identities and feminisms from at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while studying at the university. A woman with ambitions to create a web series that examined the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. The attack did not stop her, rather it strengthened her determination as an activist for women in media. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards for her contribution to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit investigates women's representation in pop culture today.
