Her age was just teen when she began her journey into the music scene and was a winner of local contests at the age of 10 old, and recorded her debut album at fourteen years of age. She signed with Rounder Records in 1985 and recorded her first self-titled album on the label in the year 1987. The year 1989 saw her asked to join Alison Krauss & Union Station who she is a part of.
